Solo Whist
Solo Whist is a trick-taking card game played by one player against the AI.
Objective:
The objective of Solo Whist is to be the first player to reach the target score by winning tricks and correctly predicting the number of tricks you will win in each round.
Setup:
- Solo Whist is typically played by four players, divided into two partnerships. Partners sit across from each other.
- A standard deck of 52 cards is used, and the ranking of cards is from highest to lowest: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
- Determine a target score to reach, such as 30 or 40 points.
Card Rankings:
- The ranking of cards in each suit, from highest to lowest, is: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
Gameplay:
- Bidding: Each player, starting with the player to the dealer’s left, gets a chance to make a bid. The bid represents the number of tricks the player predicts they will win in that round.
- The highest bidder gets to choose the trump suit for that round. If there is a tie in the bids, the player closest to the dealer’s left gets the preference.
- Play begins with the player to the left of the dealer. They lead the first trick by playing any card from their hand.
- Going clockwise, each player must follow suit if possible. If unable to follow suit, they can play any card.
- The trick is won by the player who plays the highest-ranking card of the leading suit or the highest-ranking trump card.
- The winner of a trick leads the next trick.
- The round continues until all the cards have been played.
Scoring:
- If a player wins the exact number of tricks they bid, they receive 10 points plus the number of tricks won multiplied by the trump suit rank (e.g., if clubs are trump, each trick won is worth 4 points).
- If a player wins more or fewer tricks than they bid, they receive no points for that round.
- At the end of each round, the scores are updated.
Winning:
- The game continues until a player or partnership reaches the target score.
- The player or partnership with the highest score at that point wins the game.
Tips:
- Pay attention to the bidding and try to accurately predict the number of tricks you can win. It’s better to underbid than to overbid.
- Strategically use your trump cards to win tricks and gain more points.
- Pay attention to the cards played by other players to assess the remaining cards in each suit.
- Consider the bidding and playing patterns of your opponents to make informed decisions.
- Communication and cooperation with your partner are essential to maximize your chances of winning tricks.
