UNO
Do you need a game to play with friends in your leisure hours or holiday period? Giving Uno a trial can bring all the excitement you need!
Uno is an entertaining card game that is played among two to ten players.
To play Uno, each player gets a deal of 7 cards and tries to match its number, color, or symbol.
This tutorial will reveal everything you need to know about Uno; play mode, rules, game goal, and winning strategies. Sit back and relax as we dive into the guide.
Game objective
The goal of each player is to get rid of the cards in their hands first, to declare the last card. The last card is “Uno,” and once declared, other players are caught with the remaining cards in their hands.
On the other hand, other players will also try to block you from playing using the power cards. Power cards can be “pick up two” or “miss a turn.”
How to play Uno
Anyone from seven years old can play Uno, it’s easy to understand and best played with friends, siblings, even the elderly.
Many Uno variants are available on the internet; however, they are based on the same mode of play.
1. Shuffle and deal cards
A pack of Uno contains 108 cards to be dealt among players after they are shuffled. Interested players are dealt seven cards each; leftover cards are placed facing down in a stack at the middle.
These are draw cards meant for substitutions from start to finish.
When players are out of cards during gameplay, they draw from the pile.
2. Start the game
Start the game by placing the top card from the draw pile to face up. This card becomes the discard pile, and it’s used to start the game.
3. Play a card to match
The left player to the dealer would lay down a card from his/her hand to match the word, number, symbol, or color of the card facing up at the center of the table.
All players are instructed to place their cards on top of the discard pile. The next player then looks for a matching card from his/her hands to play.
For instance, you can play any red card in your hand or any number 8 card on top of a red number 8 discard pile. The game plays clockwise from the dealer during gameplay.
4. Drawing a card from the draw pile
If it’s your turn to play and you don’t have any matching cards. Add a card to your hand from the draw pile. If the card you picked matches the card on the table, then you can play it immediately.
But if you’re unable to play the card you just selected, the next player can take his/her turn.
5. Focus on actions and wild cards
Moving forward with basic Uno cards that have numbers, they occur in three action card types. Playing a wild card will make you choose the color you’d play next.
If you place a Draw 2 card down, the next player to you must pick two cards, plus his/her turn is skipped.
You will change the direction of play if you play Reverse. The person who has gone ahead of you will now have another turn. Two arrows are present in a Reverse card that goes in opposite directions.
A card with slash and circle through it is called a Skip card, which means the next player must skip his/her turn.
6. Time to say “Uno”
Taking turns continues until one card is remaining with a player in his/her hand. Then the player will say “Uno” or accept a penalty if another player says it loud.
A player who forgets to say “Uno” receives two cards as a penalty. However, if nobody notices that no players said “Uno,” there won’t be any penalty.
7. Win with your last card
After calling Uno or you have one card left, hold while the gameplay goes around the table and comes back to you. Playing your last card before others do will make you a winner of the round.
8. Tally Points in the end
The winner of a particular round receives points when he/she adds up the cards left with other players. Record points for each round played until a person gets 500 points. Then the person becomes the game-winner.
The rules
During the Uno card game, there are no stringent rules.
- You are required to match the card played using the color, symbol, or number.
- You should draw a card from the draw pile if you can’t play. If you can’t play still, pass and allow the next player to take a turn.
- The game becomes more interesting with unique and wild cards. These cards can be used to prevent other players from winning. They also help you exhaust your cards quickly.
Game strategy
The concept behind the game is discarding your cards while others add up.
Therefore, knowing the color your opponent is playing or the number of cards with him/her helps you in the winning race.
